Bergamo

We love to visit Italy and stay in some of the old towns. This one is Bergamo, about 1 hour northeast of Milan. It is a classic walled medieval town layout set high on a hill overlooking the surrounding plains.

It is in superb order and is a great place for relaxation and simply soaking up the Italian atmosphere.

The Piazza Vecchia has a university and the main bell for the Citta Alta. It is a great meeting spot and is full of people in the evenings out for a stroll to show off those terrific Italian fashions. Orla fitted right in!

This is one of the churches just off the main square - Bergamo is still an important and wealthy town but it must have been a powerhouse when they were able to build these!

We usually stay in the Hotel Gourmet - highly recommended for it's restaurant of the same name.
