Capetown

Capetown has one of the most spectacular harbors in the world - 'The fairest cape in all the world' according to Sir Francis Drake no less. This is Orla enjoying a view of Table Mountain from our hotel on the waterfront. It is often clouded over at this time of the year, so....

We made a dash to the top while it was clear and caught some magical views from the cable car and the mountain top.

We also managed to take a trip out to Seal Island south of Capetown in Houts Bay.

This a colony of 6000 Cape Fur Seals that are protected in South Africa but are now reaching numbers that make them a pest and a threat to local fish stocks. Man has been killing their only known predator the White Shark....

A trip to the wine country of Stellenbosch (purely to see the countryside of course) brought us to a Cheetah farm in the grounds of one of them. They are trying to teach people about the danger that these animals are in - they are rapidly disappearing from the wild as man expands farming regions into their natural habitat.

We stopped by to catch up with some friends. Peter and Siobhan van der Post have the good fortune to live in the coastal region south of Capetown. Wonderful views of the bay where Southern Right whales can be seen right off shore.

A stop in Capetown would not be complete without a rotomolding training session. The shopfloor staff at Ivy Blue, Peter's company, were an inquisitive bunch with lots of questions. Enjoyed the visit to see their most unusual machine....
