Our Six Continent Trip began in April with a visit to Italy to celebrate the wedding of Claudia Persico and Andrea Rottigni followed by trips through the UK, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands and France in time to attend the PEC 2 meeting in Paris.
This was Orla relaxing at the northern Italian Lake town of Iseo prior to the wedding.
Claudia looked radiant in her dress at home before leaving for the church just 500 yards away....
....and Andrea looked just as dapper outside the church, nervously awaiting her arrival.
A quiet moment alone after all the ceremonies - we wish them a long and happy future together.
It was a great day celebrated in grand style at a villa in the mountains to the east of Bergamo. Orla wants one just like it.
We then headed for Germany and a trip through some historic locations. This is Spangenburg castle that is now a very comfortable hotel.
It was originally constructed in 1214 and is in remarkably good order.
It sits high above the surrounding town and was a great place for us to take a quick break before a long ride north to Denmark.
On the way we stopped at Koblenz to see the monument at the confluence of the Rhein and Mosel rivers.
Orla, of course, noting the immense significance of the location.
We actually stayed on the western side of Denmark in Arhus but took a day trip across to see Copenhagen where we naturally had to see the famous Little Mermaid of the Hans Christian Andersen tales. The second longest suspension bridge separates the two halves of Denmark (the longest is in Japan) - it is probably also the highest toll that we have ever seen - US$30 each way! |
