Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is a very modern city which acts as somewhat of a crossroads between east and west. Malaysia is a largely Muslim country and there are many visitors here from Middle-Eastern countries on vacation. Combined with the friendly Malay approach and a reasonable amount of western faces, this is a more cosmopolitan city than we have been in for some time.

We had a great seminar in KL on behalf of Courtenay's Malaysia with molders from all over Malaysia, Tahiland, Singapore, Taiwan and even Mauritius attending. The market for rotational molding has strong potential and the molders are eager to pursue new ideas. I hope to be back soon.

KL has it's own version of the Twin Towers. The cross-bridge between them is at the 41st floor. They are the third or fourth tallest structures in the world. Unfortunately, at 4:30pm, they are closed to visitors!

So... we climbed the KL tower, just across the park and saw them from above. This tower also has a revolving restaurant above the observation deck and we were invited to dinner later that night by a local molder. Spectacular views over the city.

And this was one of them from our hotel room - the towers by night.

After KL, we were determined to take a rest. We've now had some 56 days of traveling and need a little R&R. This is a resort on Pangkor Island to the west of Malaysia were we are currently resting - a three hour taxi ride followed by a 45 minute ferry ride away from the city. A chance to sleep, read and catch up on some work before heading for South Africa.....

Tried to use the camera for a panoramic view of the bay. It is an idyllic spot with the hotel tucked into the jungle below tree level so as not to spoil the view - you can just pick out some of the chalets in the center. Sorry for the quality of the shots but just wanted to let you know where we were roughing it in the world....

Being in the jungle means that we have some inquisitive visitors - these little fellows have no qualms whatsoever about coming into your room when you are still there to search for food - they are almost fearless!
