Thailand is an amazing country with some spectacular sights. We were here around 8 or 9 years ago and visited the major temples and palaces in Bangkok. This time we had a break in a tourist area called Pattaya before visiting the Thai Polyethylene Company. Pattaya is actually a very nice place as you can see from this photo. It is widely regarded as a world class diving area and has many local islands where people can relax. However, it has a seedy side and unfortunately you only had to walk along the seafront to see evidence of the sex trade. Sadly there are too many old, fat white men chasing the youth of Thailand... We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel which just like its counterparts in the US is decked out with all sorts of memorabilia and themed rooms. We slept under a 10ft poster of Elvis (better than the first room which had David Bowie and Susan Sarandon)! Kittinan was our host and took care of all the arrangements for our visit. We enjoyed the chance to see some of the sights of south Pattaya with him. It bustles during the day but comes to life at night with all sorts of exotic bars and entertainment. Now this was a good group. Lots of questions and some entertaining characters. They were very interested in learning everything that they could about everything! Between foaming guy, grinding guy and Melamine guy, it didn't stop! I look forward to seeing them again on a future trip. |
